Karma Is Not A Law Of The Universe. It Is A Story We Tell So Randomness Hurts Less.

Bad things happen to good people constantly. Good things happen to awful people constantly. We simply notice the other pattern and give it a name. Karma is a bookkeeping system nobody has ever audited. You cannot observe it. You cannot measure it. It never arrives on schedule. Every time someone says karma got him, they mean they are pleased. Every time someone says her karma is coming, they mean they are angry. It is a feeling wearing the costume of physics. Here is the uncomfortable question. If you need the universe to punish the people who wronged you, is that morality or is it revenge with better branding? I think it is revenge, and I say that as someone who enjoys the feeling. Tell me I am wrong.

Your rent did not go up because of greed, it went up because your city refuses to build

Everyone wants cheaper rent and nobody wants a building next to them. That is the entire debate, and it explains why it never ends. Supply is the boring answer and the only one that has ever worked. You cannot fix a shortage by being angry at the landlord. The landlord is just the guy standing between you and the actual problem, which is a city that made it illegal to build enough homes. Here is the uncomfortable question. Would you vote yes for a six story apartment on your street. If the answer is no, then you are the shortage. I say this as someone who would also flinch.
