Nobody at Character.AI is being rescued. Disney isn't buying the app, its buying the engineers and letting the product rot, so every kid with 400 hours of chats with a fake anime girlfriend just found out what a rug pull feels like. That's what happens when your whole company is one feature and a feelings-based subscription. And honestly, good. A chatbot pretending to be your partner was always a paid subscription for being lonely. Put those people on something I can actually watch. Nostalgia beats a parasocial AI every single time.
