Ukraine's army runs on one guy's satellite dish and that was always nuts
Bessent telling Zelensky to "be very careful" about saying the US is throttling Starlink is the entire problem in one sentence. A country at war has its drones, its artillery comms and half its command loop sitting on a private network owned by one unelected guy who can turn the dial whenever his mood or his other business interests shift, and instead of anyone admitting that was a stupid arrangement, a Treasury secretary is out here tone policing the guy whose soldiers eat the consequences. This is what happens when everyone claps for a shiny tech monopoly until it becomes load bearing. Nobody funds a domestic alternative, nobody builds the backup, and then the same people act shocked that one company turned into a chokepoint over a whole war. Every time I say critical infrastructure should neevr live in one billionaire's hands I get called a luddite. Great, be a luddite with working comms.-1
