Rewards points were never free money

You were paying for them either way, through the surcharge or through prices baked into everything else. Now it shows up on the receipt and that's the part people are angry about.

Credit cards are not a scam, the scam is people who carry a balance and then cry about the rewards being bait, and you not reading the fee schedule does not make the bank a criminal
