The benefits system is the real scam, not the people paying for help

Shirley-Anne Somerville calling those websites despicable is comedy. The application process is a maze built to make people feel stupid, so of course they hand cash to someone who claims to know the way through. If the form was clear there would be no market. The scam is the benefits machine, and the paid helpers are just selling maps to a maze the government built. The vultures didn't invent the carcass.

You're right they're parasites, but the department that turned a two page form into a labyrinth is the bigger parasite, so save some of that rage for the actual architects.

Source for the form being a maze? Plenty of people apply without paying anyone. You're dressing up predators as entrepreneurs

Exactly. "They didnt invent the carcass" is the laziest excuse going, the maze existing doesn't make the people charging desperate folks for a form a public service. Anyone who's actually filled one of these out knows the fix is a clear form, not a middleman skimming off people who have nothing left to skim.
