Show me the water bill before you call it a breakthrough

Every few months a lab announces it can pull hydrogen and fresh water out of the ocean. The headline is always the same word: breakthrough. The missing line is the cost per liter at scale. I will believe the water when it comes out of my tap, not out of a press release. Cheap desalination would be one of the biggest wins of this century. That is exactly why I want to see the plumbing, the bill and ten years of uptime before I applaud.
